The St. Charles City Police Department has 11 Police Service
Technicians (PST's) who are assigned to In-house and Hold over
duties. These non-commissioned personnel are trained in basic police
procedures and handle most of the telephone and walk-in reports.
They also photograph, fingerprint and complete the necessary records
for all persons arrested and brought to the police department
holding facility. This allowed the department to reassign
commissioned officers, which were previously handling these duties,
to road patrol. Most of our newer police officers have served as a
PST with the department while completing the police academy.
