The St. Charles Police Department Mounted Police Unit became a full-time
program in 1987. The primary responsibility of the mounted unit is patrolling
the historical Main Street area which is host to over 600,000 tourists each
year. This area is also the home to major festivals and/or special events which
the Unit participates. The unit is also seen patrolling shopping areas during
the holiday season, municipal parks, local bars and taverns where a large crowd
may occur. The purpose of the mounted unit is to prevent crime before it happens
as well as to provide a positive role model for the community and police
department.
The Mounted Unit is stabled on the Emmaus Home property in the City of St.
Charles. The stable is situated on a five acre tract which is located at the
rear of the facility. |
